Character Information
Name: Wayne (Kouta) Uedera = Kouta is his real name but he only lets people he trusts know that
Canon: Rose Guns Days
Canon Point: At the end of the Season 1 ‘Spring’
Age: 20-ish (Not given but he's old enough to drive, young enough for the rest of the cast to call him kid)
History: cw – suicide and child abuse + No wiki
Not long after Wayne was born his parents died. He’s always been told that they’d committed suicide after going into debt. But Wayne doesn’t really care, they weren’t there so what. He ended up being taken in by relatives. Who were horrible to him, locking him in a shed, only giving him leftovers(sometimes they’d forget to even do that) and beating him whenever something happened.
Eventually he decided that if they were going to blame him for all their misfortunes, he would cause trouble. He broke out of the shed, vandalized the house and stole the money he found there. Then snuck onto a train to the city. There he lived on the streets, managing to become the leader of a gang of orphaned kids, a gang that grew after the war. He did anything he had to so he could survive. Stealing from people both living and dead.
Then he got ill. At that point, Wayne figured that was it and he was going to die. Then a woman stopped, had him taken to her place. She nursed him back to health, gave him food and new clothes. For the first time in his live Wayne saw someone nice in the world. And that was the point where he vowed to protect Rose Haibara, even if it killed him.
Except Rose is the madam of the biggest brothel and a frequent target of gangs trying to earn protection money. As of Wayne’s canon point, Rose has been forced to go on the defensive. Declaring that Primavera will form it’s own group to protect the brothel workers and other people who need aid. This attracts the attention of an even more dangerous group…
Personality:
Loyal – Wayne doesn’t forget people who have helped him. With him swearing his life to protect Rose. In his eyes, if it wasn’t for her he’d be dead, so she owns his life now. If she gives him an order, he follows it even if it could kill him. The only time he hesitates is when she’s asking him to risk her life. This ends with her being kidnapped and Wayne has a breakdown, thrashing around and knocking himself into walls, blaming and calling himself useless. It takes Leo finding him and…uh, telling him he’s going to change Wayne from a mad dog to a noble wolf. This consists of training him enough that Wayne’s skills match a soldier. It also makes Leo one of the few men Wayne will listen to. To the point that at the end of the series, Wayne is willing to let Leo and Rose run for it, while he serves the next madam of Primavera.
Disrespectful – He has very little filter, and generally dislikes people older than him. When he was a kid on the streets, he’d watch adults walk by without doing anything but stare in disgust. His disdain for them is more noticeable for men, especially military. Because they were the ones most likely to capture and injury the orphans. Whereas women, mostly just pretended they didn't exist, or were suffering just as much.
Hot tempered – Along with the above, Wayne is quick to anger and will lash out very quickly. Even when he’s tied to a post, he’ll still keep kicking at anyone who gets near. The main characters to get insults hurled at them are Cyrus and Leo, but to be fair to Wayne they do things to annoy him on purpose because it’s funny. Being from the 40s Wayne is slightly sexist, though not as much as most the male characters, he won’t try to punch women but he’s not afraid to yell and call them names. As of his canon point, he's slowly growing out of this after realizing that people can use his anger against him. With people he trusts he's still the grumpy one though.
Protective – As a side effect of being a survivor. Wayne is looked up to by the orphans of the series, partly because he proved it was possible to make it. But another part of it is that during his time off Wayne will go through the back alleys beating up anyone whose bothering the kids. He says it's not to help them and that he just felt like beating someone up... Then immediately yells at the kids, telling them what they did wrong, what they should have done instead and splitting his wages between them. Telling them to buy healthy food and make sure to share with the younger ones. He also warns them to only steal from people who have enough to spare and not other desperate people.
Where and how did your character enter the Hedge? In the final parts of Season 1 Wayne and Rose are searching for Caleb and Miguel, the leader of the gang trying to kill them and his bodyguard. This takes place on the upper floors of a hotel that's being renovated, where they’re forced to search each room with very little light. Wayne stumbles into the hedge during that.
Additional Memories Lost: n/a
Skillsets:
Fighting – Wayne’s already a good fighter at the start of the series. He kinda had to be to survive to adulthood. But he is given training by Leo, whose a former military trainer during season 1, which makes Wayne use tactics more.
Shooting
Street smarts and pick-pocketing
Driving – (Tho he’s not that great at it given he crashes completely in season 1 and runs a girl over at the start of season 2…)
Inventory: His clothes. (He has a gun but that'll get taken.)
